A home can look tidy and still need more attention than a routine cleaning visit allows. The reverse is also true: a busy-looking room may mostly need belongings put away before ordinary cleaning can begin.
The most useful question before booking is not simply “Do I need a deep clean?” It is “What needs attention, what is getting in the way, and what work should this visit include?”
Use the guide below to describe your starting point, choose your priorities and ask for an estimate that matches the work.
Start with the condition of the rooms
Walk through your kitchen, bathrooms and main living areas. Look for the difference between everyday mess and areas that need detailed attention.
A few crumbs on a counter describe a different task from buildup along cabinet fronts. A regularly maintained bathroom may need a different amount of work from one with neglected edges and fixtures. Neither observation is a judgment about your home. It is information that helps define the visit.
Write down what you can see. “Kitchen needs cleaning” is less helpful than “cabinet fronts feel greasy, and the floor edges need attention.” If you do not know what a mark is, describe it or share a clear photo rather than assuming it can be removed.
Separate cleaning from clearing access
Cleaning a surface and deciding what belongs on it are different jobs.
Before requesting an estimate, identify rooms where loose belongings, packed boxes or furniture limit access. Decide what you will put away and what you need to discuss with the cleaning company. Do not assume moving heavy furniture, organizing possessions or removing unwanted items is included.
A short preparation plan can make your priorities easier to reach. You do not need to clean the house before the cleaner arrives; you do need a shared understanding of access and scope.
Understand the purpose of the first visit
A deep clean can establish a starting point for ongoing upkeep. Maintenance visits then focus on the agreed recurring tasks.
At Spotlessly Clean, a first-time deep cleaning is normally the starting point for recurring service. The scope depends on the home’s condition and your priorities, so the next step is a review and written estimate.
That does not mean every task someone associates with “deep cleaning” is automatically included. Ask about the particular details you want addressed.
Choose three priorities before discussing extras
If everything feels urgent, select the three outcomes that matter most for this visit. For example:
- Kitchen surfaces and cabinet fronts need detailed attention.
- Bathrooms need attention around fixtures and edges.
- Accessible floor edges need more work than the usual pass.
Then make a separate list of tasks to discuss, such as appliance interiors, cabinet interiors or interior windows. Treat these as questions for the estimate, not assumed inclusions.
Share delicate finishes, care instructions and product preferences before scheduling. Do not guess which cleaner or method is appropriate for an unfamiliar surface.
Compare the written work, not just the service name
Before accepting an estimate, check that it identifies the rooms, tasks, exclusions and access arrangements you discussed. Ask what could change the estimate if the observed condition differs from the description.
A lower total may reflect a different scope. A higher total does not explain itself either. Both are reasons to ask specific questions.
The goal is a clear agreement about what the visit is intended to accomplish and what will remain afterward.

What if the home has renovation dust or needs a cleanout?
Tell the cleaning company before choosing a routine or deep-cleaning visit. Renovation work, removal of unwanted contents and other specialized conditions can change the scope.
For recent construction, start with our Post-Renovation Cleaning Decision Pack. If belongings need removing, clarify removal responsibilities before the cleaning appointment.
